This year is my 37th year in education. I graduated with an elementary education degree from Northern State University in 1982 and I have my Master’s Degree in special education from the University of South Dakota. This is my 23rd year in fifth grade at Stewart School.
I will be teaching your child Social Studies and Writing/Spelling while Mr. Slowey will be teaching Science and Math. We will each teach Reading in our own classrooms. We do departmentalize and we expect the students to switch to the other classroom for these subjects. The fifth graders are learning how to be responsible for bringing the correct books, notebooks, and supplies to class. We feel this is an important aspect for getting them ready for their middle school years. In fact, many of the activities we do in 5th grade are in some way getting the students ready for that big step to the Yankton Middle School.
